How to Put on the Perfect Event

Tips on Preparing a Golden Wedding Anniversary Party

Getting to 50 years of marriage is something of a landmark and worthy of a celebration. Having said that, if you prefer to honour your wedding day in a more private manner, then it is entirely up to you as a couple. Nevertheless, many married couples will enjoy planning an anniversary that marks their golden wedding because it is such an auspicious occasion. What should you consider before the big day?

Home or Hire?

Many people hire a community hall or a function room for an anniversary party. However, a home-based party is often more personal and frequently more relaxed too. If you choose to host your golden wedding at home, then use your garden for the venue. Hire a marquee to provide adequate cover and opt for table and chair hire, too, so that all of your guests are comfortable for the party no matter what their age happens to be.

Golden Tickets

An anniversary party invitation is always a pleasant thing to receive, but a golden one is much more special. Many of your invited guests many not know that you are celebrating five decades of marital bliss, so make sure your invitations are posted out well in advance and mention that it is a golden wedding anniversary party—ideally having gold trim on them.

Decorate Your Party Tastefully

Whether you choose to put up your own party decorations or not, take a good deal of interest in the design of the décor. Some party planners and well-meaning friends may go overboard on golden garlands, table cloths and trimmings. If you have a sea of gold at your party, then it can all look a little bit chintzy.

Instead, opt for touches of gold here and there for a more subtle and less showy appearance. Bear in mind that violets are the traditional flowers that are most associated with 50th wedding anniversaries, so use these pretty blooms for table centrepieces and the colour for trims and garlands.

Share Memories

A wedding anniversary party need not be full of long speeches, as you might experience at a wedding breakfast, but you should be prepared to each say a few things about your marriage to the assembled guests. An anecdote or two is usually sufficient. Why not put together a slide show of your wedding day and of key events of your lives together which you can project for all to see whilst reminiscing about your shared experiences?
